Rats

Rats is a highly challenging 80's-style retro shooter game.

You are in an endless maze which is generated randomly every time you play.  There are five rat factories in the maze that produce rats.  Your mission is to blow up all the factories and kill all the rats.  You can play to get the highest score or play to get the lowest time.

The factories produce white rats and gray rats.  The white rats move randomly about the maze, but some of them are pregnant and will give birth to four baby rats at random times.  The gray rats are attackers.  If you get close to them, they will smell you and come after you.  They will also spit killer poison at you at random times.  If any of the rats contact you, you lose a life.  You have three lives per game.

All rats can move in four directions.  You can use the arrow or WASD keys to turn and move in eight directions.  Press the space bar a shift key to shoot.  It takes five shots to blow up a factory.  Hold a shooting key down to shoot continuously.  Hold down the control key to shoot in the opposite direction that you are facing.

The "Download" buttons below will download an installer - you will need to run the installer to install Rats onto your computer.

PS:  This is a reimagining/recreation of the game of Rats that originally shipped on Convergent Technologies computers back in the day.  The program is written in Python and demonstrates many of the concepts in my book "Object-Oriented Python".
